Electric transaxle TBe1600.00AT
The need of the TIPS company to produce a small electric self-propelled passenger stair has led us to develop the TBe 1600 project, a transaxle with 1,600 kg capacity. and with some perfect devices for this application. While the use of motor wheels was chosen for larger passenger stairs, a transaxle was the only possible solution for the needs of TIPS.

Innovation 1
The first requirement that was needed for our transaxle was the possibility of moving very slowly during aircraft approach phase. This is why the differential reduction ratio of our transaxle has been customized to our customer’s needs.
Innovation 3
At the same time, to get the neutral, an additional gear stage and an external gear shift lever had been introduced. So both the TBe 500 and the TBe 1600 were designed with a second gear as well. Our transaxles therefore now have the 2 gears plus neutral.
Innovation 2
Another TIPS needed spec was the possibility for their passenger stairs to be towed inside the airport at about 25 km/h for quite long distances several times a day. This request made it impossible to have the gears of our transaxle moving during these towing phases. Therefore we studied the possibility of having a neutral position for towing.
Innovation 4
Another innovation introduced thanks to this project for TIPS is the full isolation from external environment of both the electromagnetic brake and the electric motor. This is because, in addition to having to work outdoors even in the most critical weather conditions, our transaxle in this application has no protection from the vehicle chassis, unlike what happens on automotive electric vehicles.
